mlk day Martin Luther King Jr. Day was observed on January 16th of this year. It is seen as a day to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their background, and in recent years, federal legislation has encouraged Americans to use this day to give back to their communities.

At the corporate offices in Memphis, TN, ARS employees got involved by hosting a food drive for the Mid-South Food Bank and volunteering at the National Civil Rights Museum on MLK Day. 15 ARS volunteers gave time out of their day to collect cans at the celebration as the visitors arrived. Each volunteer hour equals 66 meals for the Mid-South Food Bank. So, in total, ARS employees contributed about 990 meals to the hungry.

“Martin Luther King Jr Day means a lot to me, he means a lot to all people, not just African Americans. He was an activist for all of us. We are to keep his dream alive”, said Girlie Brewer, Purchasing and Fleet Admin at ARS.

“Martin Luther King Day is a day for all of us to come together and celebrate a hero, to celebrate diversity, and also the ability to come together as one,” stated Marta Michell, Executive Assistant at ARS.

“What MLK day means to me is hope. Martin Luther King was a visionary and he knew that this time would come. We’re not there yet and we still have a ways to go. But, this day means hope. And that’s what I’m thankful for,” said Kevin Rule, CRM Admin at ARS.
